hi, i've been using a Lifeview FlyTv Platinum card to convert old VHS tapes over to DVD. in the past i've just used a standard coaxial aerial cable, which has worked but produced a slightly grainy picture. in the hope of improving the picture quality i tried using a Scart to S-Video cable, (scart socket plugged into the VCR and the s-video into the FlyTv card. the problem is when i use the s-video cable i get a distorted picture that looks like this, it flickers and scrolls across the screen. any ideas what i can do to fix this? thanks, holly
I don"t know if this is your problem but there is No advantage to useing S-Video if you use an Adapter to go from RCA/Composite to S-Video...This is because S-Video uses Luminance and Chrominance signals and RCA/Composite uses RGB I believe and an adapter can not properly convert the RGB to Luminance and Chrominance signals so you actually get worse quality when useing a S-Video adapter than when useing the Regular RCA/Composite Outputs on the VCR..... Many S-Video adapters do not Work properly and will usually end up giveing you a Distorted Picture or a Black and White picture so you are Better off Quality wize to Simply useing the RCA/Composite outputs on your VCR than useing an Adapter to go to "S-Video"... You could also get a High End VCR that has a S-Video output...and When captureing from a VCR you should be useing the Best quality cables you can afford and they should Be Gold Plated and Double EMI Shielded which will give you a Much better Signal than useing cheapo Thin non-Shielded Cables...... Cheers
