I have a Sony KDF-42WE655 LCD Projection tv.

I hooked up my computer with the S-video cable, but for some reason it only displays on the tv in black and white.

The s-video port is an onboard thing. I'll try to find out the manufacturer, etc.

    What am I doing wrong?

Is it just that my tv isn't capable of displaying a computer screen in color?

Did you setup the display correctly, enabling pal or ntsc and choosing the right colour settings on your computer.
is it possible a few of the pins in the svideo cable are bent? Try another Sviedo cable.

well I figured out that for some reason my computer (which I installed a new hard drive in) didn't have the drivers/software for the nvidia gpu which was what the s-video was on. After I installed that I later went to their tv-out options and one of the things said, connected with what? I put s-video, clicked apply, and voila, it worked.
