Working on JTAGging my 360 I just got from a pawn. It's a Xenon but it's had the bulletproofing done on it already from M$ with the extra heat sinks and removal of the X-Clamp. Nice. Anyhow, along with checking the dash and such, I threw in a legit copy of MW2. It said it needed to update my console in order to play it. I did not do that, I just ejected the disk at that point. Wondering this: will that update make the console unable to be JTAGged or, if it IS a JTAGged console, will that update brick it? If it WILL brick it, how to by pass the update but still play MW2? TIA!
Modern Warfare 2 is a hombrew killer, the only way to play that without having it update is if you were to flash XBR to your xbox!
So does simply having XBReboot installed prevent game disc updates from un-homebrewing your system? Or does it require extracting the game's XEX and running it from a hard drive? More detail would be appreciated.
With the newest XBR, it has support for all the latest games. So that you wont be asked for an update since you have the latest hacked update!
Slightly off topic here, If I were to sell my XBOX (I have killed it's homebrew capabilities) and get myself a shiny new ELITE, a, will I be able to JTAG it and b, what are the chances I will be banned and is there any bulletproofing I can place on the system to prevent it from being banned? I live in UK if this helps.
From what I gather, any truly NEW 360 you can't JTAG since they were updated with the Summer '09 dash update when built.
Thanks, that makes sense. Homebrew-killing updates on discs really scare me, though... I guess as long as I always update to the newest XBReboot when a new system update comes down the tubes I'll be fine. Still, something more sure-fire would sure be nice.
I concur. MW2 has the system update on the disc. It will update your dash. There's nothing that will "un-homebrew" a console which already has homebrew installed. XBReboot is built from the latest dash, 8955. So once you flash your nand with xbr, your console will then have the 8955 dash, but without killing the jtag exploit like the official MS 8955 does. Once you have a homebrew console, you have the luxury of removing the systemupdate folder from the games. So you wouldn't have to worry about updating your dash until a new xbr dash was released.
