safe to upgrade from xp-home to pro media center

    i have sony vaio xp-home sp2 (from sony recovery cd - no key required)
    i want to upgrade to xp-pro media center (i have HP xp-pro media center no keys required)
    ? is it safe to upgrade from home to pro media center w/o messing up my installed programs, settings and files
    ? during installation, will it ask for my original 2 cd vaio recovery cd

    The upgrade will search the hard drive first to check for validation to do the upgrade, so you most likely will not need to put in the recovery CDs. Not even sure that recovery CDs work for validation, never used them before.
