Ok I'm going to go to Office Depot tomorrow and get some Verbatims that everyone keeps praising about :)...I use DVD-R, If I'm understand right I need to look on the lable to see where there made at and I want it say made in Japan or Taiwan?

Last week I was in Sears and they had there Maxell on sale 50 pack for 17.00. They had six on the self so I started looking at the label on them and was looking for Japan on them..3 out of 6 were made in Japan so I bought all 3 of them.
I just found out today about the DVD Indetifier, so d/l it and put one the maxell in there and this is the reading I got.

    Maufacture Name: Hitach Maxell LTD
    Maufacture ID: RG02

Is this a good disk? or should I bring them back. Because I was looking at the first few disc and I noticed the edeging looks like they are wanting to peel away the purple from the disk.

    Thanks for the help.

Here's what those maxells should code as according to dvdidentier:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MXL RG02]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Hitachi Maxell Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID : [MXL RG02]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]

These are the maxell yellowtops. These are made by 4 different manufactures using the dash 4x speed. These are very hard for me to find since they are the older 4x speed.

Mxl-rg02 and Ty-g01 on the japanese spindles/jewel case packs
Ritek-g04 and a few cmags on the taiwanese spindles/jewel packs.

I'll take those yellowtops, made in japan anyday. The tys are very difficult to come by in them, but the hitachi ones are excellent. The riteks are pretty decent, but not the few cmags that were on them.

Sounds like those discs may be separating. I had 1 last year that did separate from the outer edge and ruined the disc-after a successful burn. You could see a big glob of purple and it looked like you were pushing on the lcd screen of a calculator to make that globbiness.LOL Probably a few bad discs.

There is a warranty for maxell media, just not sure if it is worth trying to get those possible bad discs replaced. It may be easier taking back the spindle if sears will take them back.

@ saugmon......... but i don't have a staples here, all i got it best buy, comp usa, circuit city, office max, office depot, and altex!!

    all carry the epson...

but the kicker is, at best buy, they have a $50 rebate, a $20 american express card, and double points for reward zone members (which i am) totalling to 26,000 points.... which will get me about 20 bucks back in vouchers... so all in all, i get 90 bucks off, which makes it a tad over a hundred bucks....

the diference is not very much, but a larger photo viewer, a tad bit faster print times, different in appearence, but other then that, cost wise, after deals and rebates, cheaper !!

    so its a good deal....

but thanks for the tip... however, i did load up on the verbs office depot had, cleared the shelf this afternoon...

If I'm not mistaken, those Arita Riteks are second class disks.

So are these printers nice? I use Verbatim Data Life DVD-R from Newegg. They are the shiny ones with no printing on them. I heard in some threads that the label way is bad for DVD's. This printer prints directly, correct?

fatstrat: Yes, the epson stylus photo ink jet printers: R-200/R-220/R-300/R-320and R-340 will print directly on your ink jet printable media. The R-300 series has more bells and whistles, but the 200 series just a fantastic job.
You have several different kinds of ink jet printable media:Full hub-these will be solid white-print right up to about 1 mm to the inner hub/regular-these will print further away from the hub/and shiny inkjet printable-gives a nice effect on your label.Full hubs are my choice.

Your shiny verbs are likely thermal jet printable.Big difference between the thermal and inkjet printables.

These are safer for playback. You don't have to worry about the labels peeling and the glue like you do with the sticker type labels. They do cost more-about 40-70 cents each. The dash format printables seem to be a lot cheaper than the plus.

I just got the basic R-200,but it does a fabulous job on my case covers.I'd like to find some glossier full hub printable Plus format media, mine tends to look dull.

What I love about these printers, the cost of the ink cartridges at private.abacus. I just ordered 3 sets-total of 18 cartridges for $55. One set of cartridges at staples and other stores are $50-$60!!!

What are these new accuCORE Sony dvd's. I picked up 4 spindles at Best Buy and 3 of them are the accuCORE. I was just looking for the made in Japan ones, so I didn't even notice this accuCORE business. I'm just curious as to what it is.
