i have a samsung dvd rom drive, attached to pioneer 108 dvd rewriter,i am trying to create an image with the samsung(ps2 backup, with dvd decrypt),whilst reading,it either crashes, locks up,or sometimes doesnt even read disc.is there anyway of checking whether is knackered or not.i cant even play dvd movies in it.regards.
i dont think i can,i am running both SAMSUNG DVD,PIONEER REWRITER into the same ide bus connection,do you think that may be the problem?i am not sure what the alternative would be? do you know if 2 drives are normally into 1 connection on the board,or should i run the DVD ROM in through the HARDRIVE PORT?
My samsung cd/dvd combo is too unreliable to read dvds for my burning. It is great for burning cds, crap for reading dvds.
disconnect the pioneer with power off than restart try using the samsung to see if freezes or not. also check the jumper on both rom drives to see if master, slave or cable select. post results
samsung still no good, good excuse to upgrade, going to trash samsung.cheers for your help, much appreciated.
some people give up too easily... I just finished reflashing the firmware on my LiteOn 166S and things went wrong and screwed up a lot, (took up the whole week) but I never gave up and now I have a functioning DVD-ROM again.
dont fancy updating the firmware, dont know how to do it,heard its a bit complicated and can mess up your system if you do it wrong???
that's why you backup your original firmware first and make sure you are flashing the right drive on the right channel. Bootable firmware flasher: http://digi.rpc1.org/mtkflash.htm If you use it, you need to make sure your drive is compatible with it first.
