i have a samsung le40r51b. and after looking at all the forums cant find out whats the matter with it.i have saw the posts about "it shouldnt buzz". also the "make them replace it. its past warranty and its a shame just to bin the set.the problem.. when turned on from being off the set will power up sound and picture for approx 2 seconds then a blank (black screen) just the sound. IF i leave it like this for a few minutes the turn it from "on" to "standby" the set works fine. but after an hour or so i hear a sort of "hissing".from the side. im not brave enough to let this go on lol. so i turn it off. any ideas? sorry if this is in the wrong place.
If the TV works fine while making the Hissing noise, it could just be a noisy transformer inside, there is no harm except the irritation of that hiss. Have someone come out to look at it or take it in to have it looked over as your only options.
thanks gibber.its just why it wont power up first time is the worry.its normal to have a noisy transformer.?
garmoon.... the sound is from the back of the tv NOT the speakers...ie the top left ad right sides..even when muted.i understand the inverters are noisy but does not sound right.
I understood what you meant. My Sammy, with all volume turned down or muted, does not make a sound thru speakers or inside the set-just silence. And neither should yours. Something is not right. What I was trying to say the only sound heard from the area of the TV is the clear audio of the program, not the hum from something inside the TV. There should be NO buzz or hum. I have a feeling all these new expensive HD sets are going to have problems out the kazoo and be completely unreliable when compared to CRT sets which never died or made strange noises.
thank you for the clarity garmoon, i had a word with a tv engineer. he reckons "most" lcd sets have some kind of hum(the cold cathode supplies). and that it may be down to the psu as it seems samsung use the same power supply to power this 40" set as they do in the 37" maybe pushing the psu too hard.? i have read that a firmware update has solved many "buzzing problems" but seems samsung deny the update even egsists! lol.your right about the older crt sets. but i suppose that they will even the perfectly ok ones will die out after the digital changeover. again thank you for taking the time to reply.
No problem, ironbot. How old is your set? If you set it to standard or movie mode does the noise persist. Do you have it set to dynamic by default. I have mine set to standard and then I increased contrast to 90%.
garmoon, i think the set is about 3-4 years old.it is set to dynamic by default although i have changed it to standard and mutch the same thing.i also noticed that the time and date reset after the set is unplugged for a few days.might have something to do with the fault?.also when the contrast is up or down it makes a little but not impressive differance the the buzzing/hissing sound. thanks.
well at least you got 3-4 years out of it. But that's not acceptable, especially considering the cost of these sets. I would have some one check it. Could be very simple problem. I would definitely not leave it unwatched due to possible fire hazzards. At normal volume, can you hear the buzz or is it only when there is no sound coming from spaekers. If it's really a minor buzz I would ignore it, but with the caveat above. One thing you haven't mentioned. Have you added any new toys that plug into the set: Amp, dvd players, play station, new HD box, pc? Anything new plugged into set inputs or outputs. I would take ALL wires off I/O puts and turn set on. If there is NO noise then connect everything back 1 by 1 until it returns. I have a 35 year old Sansui quad amp that won't accept my Sammy LCD or an older Panasonic CRT without humming.
garmoon, the buzzing is not presant when the set is first turned on, it sort of "creeps up" getting louder as the time goes on,after an hour it gets to almost a hissing/click,from mainly the top left side if that makes any sense. there hasnt been any other thing connected to the set,ie dvd video amp ect. just the set by its self.again the noise appears only after and hour or so. thanks again.
well seeing as all i got was nada from samsung and not mutch help here yup <<still dealing with it! lol
Ok, I'm going to tell you how to fix the problem. 1. Get on Craig's List and create an account. 2. Publish an ad for your tv. 3. Don't tell them about the buzzing noise. 4. Tell them about the buzzing noise and risk not get as much for it. TV is now sold and you can put the money from the sale towards a new one. I recommend you get the Samsung HL-T6187S.
HA HA, my tv used to make a high pitched ringing sounds at times...i found out the cable box was to blame...id often smack it like crazy crying because i couldn't watch my adult-swim properly LOL, just telling you to check for any variables! -tripplite
