I know I came in pretty late in the game, but my xbox disc drive just died, and instead of replacing it with a stock drive, I was hoping to replace it with a modded drive. I'm not very confident in my sautering skills, so I'm hoping I can buy a pre-made drive. I can't find any online, does anyone know where I can find one? Preferably a plug-and-play one?

the 616T was always a rare and expensive drive.. It will be far easier and cheaper to just source an original xbox drive these days...

The last 616T I saw went for £130 on fleabay about 2 years back 0.0.. Modding one is hard too.. quite a large risk of messing it up. Personally I wouldn/t bother.. xbox drives are easy to get, though it's probably cheaper to just buy another xbox and swap the drive, then selling your old drive in the replacement for close to what you paid..

Have you tried all the fixes, or has the drive completely done a philips?

I've tried nearly everything I can find, pot tweaks, lens cleaning, cleaning the dust out, nothing seems to work. I just keep getting "the disc you are using my be dirty or damaged". Half the time, when I press the eject button, the drive won't even push out >.<

That sounds like a samsung.. probably a 605f (1.6 box)

I looked around for a replacement samsung xbox drive, but they are more than another complete working machine..

Maybe if you contact some of the other regulars (chunkhead/C4RN1 etc) they may have spares or parts they can help you with, or post a wanted?.

I guess I'll try that, it'd definitely be easier on my wallet ^_^. Thanks a lot for your help. Is there a certain thread I should post a want ad in?
