i got a Samsung SH182M drive last year January 2007. I did not use the drive alot. Only burnt probably 3-5 dvds with it and 3-5 cds. They all worked good. Thats about it. Around last year near september I noticed my drive could not read some dvds. The light on the drive kept blinking. But my laptop drive could read it. I just thought it was just a "once off" hick up of my drive. And then I used the drive about 2 weeks ago to try to burn something using nero 7.2 and it stopped half way and gave power calibration error. I looked at the half burnt dvd and saw that the track had uneven colour. Looked like as if the burner "stopped and started" alot during the burn. Just to add, I do not have a buffer under run problem. And then today I tried to burn files into a TDK dvd+r using nero 7.2, and it gave me a power calibration error. And the drive cannot read TDK dvd+r and Verbatim dvd+r disks. These are good quality disk. The drive can read original disks though. So i dont think it is the disks, it must be the drive. I read the power calibration sticky and i think my drive is dieing. Any suggestions? I updated to the latest firmware and still the same thing. If your warrenty is in effect you better jump on it. Also download DVDfabHD decrypter & use free trial of Clone 2 to see if it will burn ( backup one of your movies ) Also try -r disks.
