Can any body help me with this head splitting problem I have a Samsung TS - H552 DVD R/RW drive which is supposed to write to both -as well as + formats well that is what it is supposed to do? I have tried burning to DVD+ no problem at all but as soon as i try a DVD- disc the software in front of me on the screen just sits there.
Ok I am using shrink with Nero burning Software what am i doing wrong here? I need some answers why i can burn to + with no problems in yet DVD- i have no chance.

Firstly thank you for the information! It did occurr to me that just maybe the reason why the - is not burning is because the speed is wrong? I will try and answer your questions as best i can! Firstly i have had no probs burning + On this drive! This is a second new model i have purchased as the other one was sent back because it was faulty. I am using shrink 3.2 and burning the DVD through Nero 6 Ultra edition the speed i was attemting to burn at was 4x but i did notice in the link you kindly provided that a DVD- is set at 12x is that correct? because if this is the case i can only go from 2.4 up to 8x i cannot seem to find the 12x. I attempted a burn at 8x with failure to burn to DVD- resulting as usual in me not being able to close shrink and the Writing cach box stays on the screen and will not close which i then have to restart the P.C to get it off. The type of disc i was attempting to burn to is a Maxell DVD-R 1-4x speed
4.7GB data disc. I thought i would just as well say exactly what the disc has printed upon it? The nero Info tool on my P.C States Read speed 8x Write Speed 8X but will not let me change it? What am i doing wrong? This is getting to be a pain in the neck! Why is it i have no problems with DVD+R But DVD-R seems to be.
The box that states back up DVD I have maximum, 2.4X, 4.0X, 6.0X, 8.0X, No 12X Burn at least 30mm (DVD+R/RW high compatibility Mode this box is ticked.Any more info please ask. I have always done a lot of burning with no problems upto now since i installed this new drive that would allow me to burn to both + and - Burning + Is no Problem however - is a real No, No! Help!!

Just tried to burn at maximum speed and again the writing to cache box stays on the screen and does not even find the DVD- disc i put in? So i am absolutly 100per cent lost? I am out of ideas So anybody? Want to give this a try? I know it is probably something totally stupid but i am a complete Novice at this as it has been quite easy upto now with DVD+ No Probs why is DVD- not as easy.

Well at last i finally got the drive to burn? Although i am unsure what the problem was down to? the disc i was using to burn to was an old disc but i could see nothing had been burnt to it, but it was a 4X times disc so i am not sure if that was the problem?
I went out first thing today and purchased a pack of Maxell 1 to 8X discs and used one of these and sat their with bated breath fingers crossed i went into decrpypter and set the burning speed to 8x and there i found other speeds including 12X! but decided to stick firstly with 8X, I slipped the disc in once shrink had done its job and tried the burning with a test recording which was only under half hour long and than tried the burn???> Yes it worked!! Finally got there. The ode i think to this story is dont bother using old discs that you might think were clear to use and i do feel a bit of a prat but never mind i got this one sorted.
But many thanks to the one guy on here who did reply to my problems, although i feel that we were thinking along the same lines that the speed of disc i was using was wrong or that the disc may have already been formatted.
