saorview channels and equipment,cable hd boxes

hello,im hoping someone can give me some info on the new saorview boxes and tell me where i can purchase one and if theres anyone thta has one could tell me if there not too complecated to use as i was thinking of getting one for my elderly parents as there paying to much to cable companies in this recession era!and also what equipment i need and where i can find it ?i was also looking for a cable box that has hd ,if there is any out at the moment or if there is boxes that can record and rewind like sly plus or nthell?thanks in advance

thanks mooley for the info on saorsat but is there a definate timeframe on the box?and while im here im wondering which cable box would u recomend at the moment for a newby like myself for my house i have broadband and sick of paying sky prices?

Just a quick update on this. There are now three manufacturers of Saorview Approved Boxes. The Triax TR112, the Walker WP12DTB-R and the Finlux SAO634 STB T8010. I'm not sure about the Finlus as I haven't laid my hands on one tet but the walker and triax saorview boxes both can do recording and have media players built in although he walker media player is fairly limited. The triax can do pause live tv too. The walker however cannot do pause at the moment but this is to be add in next software update according to my info. Neither can do true rewind TV function as there is no buffer built in. The can rewind if you are already in timeshift mode. The triax saorview box can record one thing at and watch something eles at the moment as saorview is being broadcast from one mux, but this will chane at some point and be broadcast from more tahn one mux and then you would need a twin tuner box which is not available currently. At the moment there is no series link on saorview either, this is to be added at some point and make use of the mheg5 engine that is part of the saorview spec.

we have lots of info on the website about saorview, basically all the questions people have asked us we put together a q and a session. I'll post the link if I can but can someone confirm to me if I am allowed to post a link to my own site? It's not to products but to the info section and video user manuals if that makes any difference. I don't want to break the rules here. I posted a link to the q and a section before on another forum when someone asked me for the link blissfully unaware that I was doing anything wrong and I was immediately banned for life, I'm going to 'thread' more carefully this time if you'll excuse the pun. I mean, how can I answer a direct question I am asked, especially when someone asks for a link, without posting the bleedin link? I hope the boys at afterdawn are a bit more forgiving!!

Anyway, can someone confrim that for me (would prefer to hear it from a mod) and I'll post what we have learned so far in our saorview box testing.

the way i look at it is it not the same as a chat about sky or virgin? now that we are waiting for the irish version and not a forum?
