I need help in removing the sasser virus from a laptop. I can get passed the windows xp splash screen, it just reboots from there after displaying an error message

"When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct."

I cant access Safe mode or the antivirus i have installed which is AVG8. I have XP PRO installed. I have tried a XP boot disk to repair the OS but it just reboots when i enter R.

Is there a boot disk i can use to access my laptop or anything similar to remove it? I dont want to format the HD as it has family pictures and videos on it.

    Can someone please help??

Did you get your laptop cleaned up yet?

I've come home to find the kids corrupted two of my computers, so we have the same problem.

What operating system? Do you have another computer or friend with Anti Virus program which can create a virus boot disk?

There are a few free programs which will remove the virus while windows is running, but I haven't found a free program to create a boot disk. I'm going to create boot disk with the dos based Sasser removal tool.
