I have a few Instructional DVD's that have a navigation menu. Guitar instruction for the curious. I would like to save these to my home server hard drive and play them remotely via the home server to my iPad. I would assume this is possible. How? I have other video files that I play using VLC on my iPad from my home server but they don't have a navigation Menu. The navigation menu is really a must for Instructional videos. And I might even assume VLC could save the DVD to disc so that I could use the menu. Just never done it myself.
Hi g725s- Assuming that the disc isn't copy protected and that the disc is a DVD-Video, you can open the disc in File Explorer and then copy the Video_TS folder from the disc to a folder of your choice. It's best to put it in a folder which has no other files. In VLC Player, you would select Media, Open Folder. Select the appropriate folder and playback will start. The first thing it should play is the menu, if that's what was selected when the original disc was burned.
No vlc can't rip dvd's it can however play them when the dvd drive is in use. Use dvdshrink in downloads section of afterdawn, if it can't rip then go find dvdfab version 8 & use that to rip full dvd with no compression , (dvdfab is free for ripping so pay no money). If there are any law warnings about piracy in the now ripped dvd, run it through dvdshrink to remove them. As wither said you can rename the video_ts folder to the name of the material ready for streaming. You can use vidcoder if you want to optimize for streaming by converting to the appropriate media file however that would mean creating individual media files of the same name & numbered 1 & upwards as there won't be a menu it will contain a bunch of individual media files in the correct order
To clarify, I didn't say to rename the "video_ts" folder. The folder he puts it in can have any name. I noticed that VLC Player has a streaming option but I've never used it and don't have time to pursue it. As mentioned, one can import the video_ts folder into vidcoder, Nero, Cyberlink, etc. for editing.
I know. I mention renaming as that's all that's required of the vts folder it doesn't need to go inside another. The vid files are all that matter & where they are
