car.mike, I told you all i was a newbie. lol i should have known to pm but it seems he is well on his way thanks again.
Hi all, I burned SAW 2 and FOG with dvd fab, and dvd shrink-burned with dvd decrypter. No problems at all.......... Schifty
I have been using Videovault & DVDxPlat. that comes with it, dvd43 during the past year, when madagaskar and stealth came out with that sony crap I started to have trouble, since than I switched to AnyDvd and not have any trouble since, there is only one movie that I could not capture no matter what burning software or decoder I used and I have 3, its called The Best of Youth, if anybody out there that beat this thing let me know.
FredBun , If you have tried 3 rippers w/ that movie then you might have a bad press and you need to return it for another. If it is the 2005 Version then you should not have to big of a problem ripping it as it is not a Sony. Have to tried using PgcEdit w/ the Psl-2 Plug-in. If it is not the encryption then it will do the movie. If there are bad sectors then it should tell you so
@fredbun I agree with Car.Mike, AnyDVD should give you a screen indicating what kind of protection was found on the disc...could you provide this info for us.
I cannot back up saw 2. My computer doesn't even recognize that their is a movie in the drive. I have anydvd running and have tried to use decryptor, shrink, and fab platinum to copy it, but it's not even recognized on my computer. The movie plays fine in my ps2, but won't play in my computer?? Any ideas????
@ biteme Something's wrong with your set up. Close all the programs reboot and let the drive try to play the disc. Don't let Anydvd run. Just what you use to play the movie. Will the drive read another movie or store-bought cd? Saw II was an easy movie to back up for me: AnyDVD-NeroRecode. Others Shrink-Nero. others DVD43 and Shrink(I assume Decrypter or Nero to burn)The disc can't be damaged?? It's not a copy of Saw II that you're trying to read?
I rebooted without anydvd running...no luck. I put in the movie Doom and it ran fine. It just doesn't recognize that one movie as a readable disc, but it plays in my ps2? still no luck...
@biteme You may have a bad press - if you can't get it ripped/recognized exchange it for a new one. There's really nothing special on this one. When you try decrypter what happens? I have been able to rip using decrypter a couple of times when the dvd wasn't recognized or would play on the pc.
The furthest that I've got decryptor to go was that it said that there was a dvd-r in the drive, but thats as far as it gets (and that only happened once). I guess I'll have to try exchanging it if there no real problems occuring with anyone else.
@biteme Is this a copy or original like garmoon pointed out? Reason I ask is if it's showing as a dvd-r it's either a copy or you have the drive your going to burn (w/ a blank in) selected instead of the source drive. If this is a copy your drive may need a firmware update.
@biteme Is the disc dirty or smudged, scratched? Checked the read side with a bright light? I'm outa ideas.
Just to let you know...it was the disc. I don't know why, but I exchanged it for a different one and it worked fine. Used AnyDVD wtih dvd decrypter with no problems. Thanks for the help though!
I initially purchased 123 CopyDVD and it didn't burn as it couldn't "see" either of my burner drives.. I was very ticked off at first as Staples wouldn't take the software back.. After I played around with it and got it to finally see my dual layer burner as the source drive, I downloaded both DVDDecrypter and iso4u. Now I can pretty much copy any DVD I want.. I put SAW2 in the dual layer, hit 123 CopyDVD to rip the movie to the hard drive. Then I use iso4u to make the iso file. Then I use Decrypter to burn the final movie onto a DVD-R blank. The only throuble I've had to date is not being able to burn anything more then 120 minutes.. Then I learned about what DVD Shrink was about and as soon as I get it downloaded and installed, that problem shall also be a thing of the past.. 1 extra step, yes.. But the end result is all that really matters..
I know it will be hard to uninstall and not use a program that you paid for, but if the store wont take it, whatcha gonna do. I say this because you are doing too many steps and probably taking longer to make back ups. If you get and install DVD decrypter and DVD Shrink (both freeware) you will be able to: decrypt, shrink and burn to disk, using only them 2 programs. My processor speed is 2.70 and I burn at 4x. From inserting my original DVD to writing the title on the perfectly working back up takes approx. 75 minutes. Give or take 5 mins. for longer or shorter movies. Even though I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for the entire process it is good to have DVD Fab Decrypter too. I tried to decrypt Scarface the other day and DVD Decrypter gave me errors so I used DVD Fab. DVD Fab didnt give me any errors but the movie still had protection on it (green blotches throughout the entire movie). I do wish I could back up Scarface, my original has seen better days.
dryvitguy, Those Green Blotches were the scratches on the original or it is a bad press but I doubt the bad press . Since this movie is about 20+ years old I think it is scratches and since DVD's have not been out that long then it is scratches or bad mastering. Find another copy and copy that one. You also might try cleaning the disk real well to see if that helps and then re-rip w/ DVDDecrypter
@dryvitguy Just get another copy of Scarface. the new release is remastered and audio and video are awesome. worth the extra time . I backed-up mine with NO problem (DVDshrink only) ..and Nero to burn. Good luck !
