i tried too look and see if this subject was discussed here before and i couldnt find it so here goes:FYI did you know on nero7 on the nero quick launch menu, there is a tab called "test drive" or something like that, and it opens up a program...there is a tab called scan disc that is very useful to scan your dvd too see if it has errors on it? i used this program on a couple of my "suspect" dvd's i have backed up, you know the classic cyclic redundant error thing, and sure enough the el cheapo dvd i was usig had bad sectors on it!! the scan takes about 4 or 5 minutes [depending on your drive and pc] and the bad setors light up red. maybe this will help someone figure out why that stupid cycle error even exists!
its a pretty good one, the best memorex they got, but i dont know the model #, im really tryin to figure out the whole cyclic redundant thing, ill check that link you sent and THANKS for the input :))

    Hey dvdabyss
Depending on the model of your burner you can also do a quality scan w/ that also.
Scan disc is good to check those crc errors - good post!

Check out this thread on media and scans (mainly taiyo's - + the threads title is Offical docTY Taiyo Yuden):

Here's a somewhat dated list for Nero & dvdinfo pro that both do the quality scan.
    http://www.k-probe.com/kprobe-k-probe-alternatives.php

Memorex is listed for Nero but it probably depends on who actually manufactured the drive.
What the make & model? You can get that info in NeroToolKit.

Or your Nero may need an update - what's the version # - like 6.6.0.18 or 7.0.8.2?

The quality scan is good - I just don't put that much faith in it. Cool to play around with.

    Hey dvdabyss
Keep poking around - you already found one good thing - I'm sure you can find another to help out:)

Now the Sony - well Sony usually doesn't make their own drives sooo may just want to go straight to the source. LiteOn makes alot of them and I think BenQ also. Both great drives along w/ the Plextor.
