Ok let me start by saying I have already tried to research this and have got mixed answers. 1st, I have been on the ps2 and wii scene for years and did any and all mods myself. I just recently purchased a pre modded 360 so I wouldnt have to do all of it over. Now im kinda wishing I had done it myself so I would know a little more about my system. 2nd, the guy I bought if from said it was a soft mod but is there any way of telling which version or type of soft mod is on my system like I can on my Wii? 3rd, Im deathly afraid of doing ANY updates, should I be? I have no desire to take my system online or LIVE or anything like that so im not worried about being banned. I just dont want to brick my console. My biggest thing I want to update for is to watch movies like my xvids and mkvs. Does anyone know the exact update for that? and is that one safe to update to?
without knowing what firmware was flashed to your drive it is hard to answer that question, what is the newest game you have to play on it? how long has it been since it was flashed?
Is there any way at all to look up and see what firmware I have on the system? Lets see, Rockband 3 and the new guitar hero play great. Only game ive burnt that doesnt play is Halo reach but it could be cause my burner stalled a couple times. I just got the system about a month ago but theres no telling how long before that it was modded. its the classic white arcade console if that helps at all.
there is no way to know what firmware it has without hooking to a computer and running something like JF on it, i would say to try a newer game and see if it plays or not and go from there, but my guess is you will need to update the firmware.
I have never had a burn stall fail any of my games. It quits burning until the buffer refills. The only way to check your firmware it to hook the drive up to your computer via sata with portIO installed. Use jungleflash to check. You will need instructions for your drive. I have a copy of instructions if you want to email me at vick79@live.com
Well its green at top and fades to grey at bottom, has a little guy standing but i cant change him. in my system info it says dashboard 2.0.8955.0 does that help?
maybe you should try something like the new NFS or Fable III, if it loads them that means you most likely have at least LT on the system, it would help as well if we know what kind of drive the xbox has in it, so if you can identify that it would help as well, look inside the hole on the front of and see what color wires are in it, if you have trouble figuring out where to look Google 360 drive identification.
nfs or fable more than likely wont play as hes on a dash that was out before LT+ was released. unless for some reason the seller flashed LT+ but didnt want to update the console. unsure why this would be the case. best thing to do is just email the seller and ask them what firmware is flashed to the drive. if its anything but LT+ you will want to have it updated to that so you can play the newest games. as for your updating to watch movies, the only way you will be able to watch them is via being connected to live. the codecs/update file has to be downloaded each time you want to watch a movie so yea. the only way around this is with an older PRE-NXE console or a jtag (which you do not have). if you are in the states and dont want to update the drive yourself, just send me a PM.
As far as looking at the tray and the pics on the drive identifier it looks like the BENQ VAD6038 are the nfs and fable III just dashboards? if so where do i find them and how do i install?
So each and everytime I want to watch an xvid it will dl the codecs over instead of just keeping it on the system?
you will have to connect the console to xbox LIVE to watch the games. you do not have to be a 'GOLD' member, but will have to be signed into LIVE.
Ok, I know for sure i can play nfs carbon, is there another one I need to try? And also, is the benq drive a good or bad one to have?
carbon is an old copy. the guy stating see if you can play that and fable III was referring to the new 'need for speed hot pursuit' that came out last month. and benq is good to have.
Ok just tried to play Hot Pursuit and it prompted me to update. Where does that leave me? If I click to update will it mess my mod up? Again, im not connected to internet
wont mess up your mod, but after the update if you see a black screen when the game tries to load that last more than a minute turn it off
