Hi There! Just a kik one. I have some old DVDs with some scrathes. When I try to bakup them in a normal way with DVD Shrink or Decrypter i recive some error messages. Do you now some software around with a free trial (because we have lots of scrap) for recover bad media. Tanks a lot.
You can buffing out the scratches (non circular motion) as best you can with something non abrasive. Or try another drive - some are better at getting past the bad spots. Here's a data recovery tool- isobuster: http://www.isobuster.com/ I just use the free version. Depending on how deep the scratches are though you may not be able to back these up.
It is best to try the least abrasive first. Maybe a scratch remover. Sold in stores. brobear and I were talking last night about having to use car polishing compound and car wax to repair badly damaged DVD/CD's. This is on the clear side. If the label side is scratched deeply, not a lot you can do.
i have been using this and it works pretty good SkipDoctor AUTOMAX™ Motorized Disc Repair System From the creator of the world's first CD and DVD scratch repair device - the AUTOMAX™ Motorized Disc Repair System repairs scratches and does it even easier using motor power! No more handles to crank for minute-after-minute and no messy pastes to deal with. The simple process takes just minutes to restore a dmaged disc to like-new performance. A fantastic tool to save expensive damaged DVD's and CD's. Requires 6 AA batteries (not included) http://www.portabledvdstore.com/skipmdmotscr.html
I have had some luck using the new ripping tool that came out with Any Dvd not long ago,I was able to back up my original copy of Fantasia 2000 that a friend of mines kids nearly destroyed! All I did was give it a good cleaning and let the proggie do it's job. This was a last ditch effort after everything in my arsenal failed. Try it...it really can repair a messed up disk.
