Does anyone know a good free or cheap screen capture program that will capture a snapshot of an image on a computer video player when using XP? I used to have no problem using control Printscreen and pasting it into a photo editor, but now the image acts like it goes in the file, but everytime I capture a new image it changes the old files to the just captured one.

    Any suggestions.
    Thanks

The video you get on Window Media Player and RealPlayer can not be captured by regular screen capture methods, because it is usually playing in a hardware overlay. The overlay it almost as if there was another, smaller screen in front of your regular Windows desktop screen. The desktop contains in that place only the so called "overlay key color" - a solid block of color, usually black, blue, magenta or pink, but it can be anything.

There is a way out if you want to sue regular screen capture programs ; that is you must turn off the overlay then play the file and pause it where you want a capture. In Windows Media Player you click Tools --> Options and on the Performance Tab --> Advanced at the bottom --> you remove the tick in the ""use overlay "" box ! Do not forget to click APPLY then you are all set.--

An excellent program to Capture and save the capture images in a format of your choice with a different number for each , is MWSnap ! It's FREE and available here :- http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html

You can make it sit in your tray and dedicate a folder on your drive where all your capture will go to !

    Good Luck !
