Sorry if this is in the wrong place (please move it if it is) but I am looking for a program to capture desktop to video in xvid at something approaching xvid movie quality. I am running i7 at 3.6 ghz, can this be done in real time and if so what is the most solid program for the job.

Is there anything I should now about the encoder as well?

    thanks all.

There's a freeware app named Wink that may suit your needs to some degree. There is a wealth of info on that site with what it can do. The tutorials are easy to follow. You'll soon know whether or not it does infact suit your needs.

    http://www.debugmode.com/wink/download.php

The link above is for the download but click on "home" when the page loads and all the info you need is there.

    Cheers.
