I am trying to figure out how to interface ULTRA320 SCSI to a notebook. Is anyone aware of ho I can do this? USB adapter?? PCMCIA adapter??
ULTRA320 is the SCSI Standard/Spec/Format. The device is a HDD. There are a number of different SCSI standards. ie SCSI-1, Fast SCSI, Fast-Wide SCSI, Ultra SCSI, Ultra Wide SCSI, Ultra2 SCSI, Ultra2 Wide SCSI, Ultra3 SCSI, Ultra-320 SCSI and Ultra-640 SCSI. There are some adapters on the market for other SCSI standards, but I have been unable to find one for the ULTRA320 standard/format. Thanks!
He may wish to connect a peripheral SCSI tape / DAT / LTO tape drive, RAID unit or drive to his laptop. The main reason I can see him wanting to do this is speed. As far as I am aware, there are only PCMCIA SCSI cards available in the earlier flavours. 2x cards I have previously used have been the Adaptec 1460 and the Adaptec 1480. I don't think they will ever release Ultra320 / Ultra640 cards for laptops simply due to the fact that they tend not to be required with laptops. Them kind of cards tend to be used in servers where high performance is required. Of course not many laptops require such a performance and are not needed.
An existing system has removable SCSI drives and we need to be able to load data onto the removable SCSI drives via the laptop which can not be networked to the other system. Thanks for the info, that is what I thought.
