    Hello guys,

I'm new to the board and I'm in need of a little assistance, I have recently freshly installed Windows 2000 Pro on my girlfriends laptop, It installed with no problems what so ever, however as soon as I access the internet I receieve a message stating 'scvhost.exe has encountered and problem, please restart the program' now this only happens when I go on the internet (IE4), however I have noticed that once this little error pops up, my folders do not show up on my C:, i know there there as it says 80 files/folders shown, 3 folders hidden... Is this some sort of Worm/malware?? or is it something to do with Win 2000?? I've thought about re-installing everything and then installing IE6 along with AVG free edition and Spybot before going online, will this work??

    cheers

    Jamie

s[bold]cv[/bold]host.exe is bad. s[bold]vc[/bold]host.exe is good, so don't get confused. You need to delete the s[bold]cv[/bold]host.exe, this will have to be done in safe mode.

    Then, download HijackThis.
Create a folder for it and extract the file there.
Do a system scan and save a log file.
Post that log file in your next reply.

Thanks for replying to my message,

I seem to have stopped the problem however,l I re-installed Windows 2000 Pro, installed Zone Alarm, and updated with Service Pack 3 and IE6,along with an installation of Spybot. But thanks for clearing up the difference between scvhost.ex and svchost.exe

    cheers
