I hope this is in the most appropriate section. I recently bought a JVC KD-SH1000 car stereo which has the ability to read SD cards. So i bought myself a 2GB SD card and filled it. Hooray? No. See after many problems and reading the manual - ive seen that the unit is limited to a 512KB SD card. Pointless? Yes! Does anybody know any way to get around this ridiculous limit. The stereo reads my memory card but it fails if you try to play anything past the first 800KB of songs (roughly) If there was a way to mod it - or bypass it - that would be great. Ive tried look for ways of contacting JVC but they dont even provide an email address. Thanks.
To be able to "get around" the limit you must figure it is an arbitrary limit imposed by software instead of a physical limit like the chip only has 512 RAM and the unit reads the entire block into memory. It is unlikely that is is software. It is probably a chip. I doubt that it has a CPU. How were you going to communicate to it? Hackable devices have CPUs a user interface and a way to upload programs unless you you were going to program it yourself by a new method of communication you plan to develope. The device reads mp3 CDs and has a ipod/mp3/cd changer port. Why are you fixated with a chip??? The unit cost 200+ the chip cost 15. Take a deep breath and make a mental note to read the instructions before you buy. An mp3 CD holds 700 megs of music (5-12 hrs depending on the quality). They hold more than 6 audio CDs. I find them the best size for car sterios. Anything bigger becomes cumbersome because you have to work too hard to find what you want while driving. If 12 hrs is not enough time for you connect an ipod or an mp3 CD changer. My center consol holds over 50 disks. That is a year's supply for me. I gorgot to mention, I ordered a ipod control device for my unit but by the time I got it I had fallen in love with the mp3 CDs and never hooked it up. I prefer to keep my eyes on the road.
