I have a P4 3.06G window xp laptop. I had several problems converting avi to mpeg-2 using tmpgenc 2.5 (only blackscreen). I uninstalled it and have the trial of cce 2.5. According to cce, I had no codec for "sdvs". Is this normal? I encoded previously with WinAvi with no problem. Which would be a good (free?) sdvs codec to download? I downloaded the Mainconcept trial, so far so good.

Could this have been the tmpgenc problem?

    Thanks in advance!

While I have no concrete answers for you. I wouldn't bet on CCE being correct. If I remember correctly, you are using the Kazaa Lite codec pack which should contain every codec you will need. I have used it for 2 - 3 years with no problems yet CCE told me I had no XVID codec installed when I did, http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=304929 and a very knowledgeable user reported that CCE told him he had no DIVX codec. I have never heard of sdvs; what does GSpot say, can you play the file on your laptop? If so, it's not a codec issue. If interested, a very good program is ConvertXtoDVD, fast and very good quality and nothing else needed but the trial does insert a watermark in your video and runs slower: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm

thanks mistycat and may I say OOOPS Gspot told me I had no codc for sdvs, not CCE. I downloaded the trial of mainconcept's sdvs codec and so far so good with tmpgenc, but cce is giving me even more problems now......

Yeah, the KLite and Kazaa Lite pack are the same. I just refer to it that way because I got it through Kazaa Lite, years ago. Glad to hear you got TMPGEnc working. It's a good program, just slow. I'm beginning to think CCE is buggy; I'm seeing weird problems that shouldn't be with it here and there in various forums.

Yup, I've been having a lot of bugs with CCE, I'm going to stick with Tmpgenc and encode while I sleep. I'll start now by looking for some plugins. thanks for all your help!
