Can I plug in my external Seagate HD into a PS3 USB port and access my media files (pics, vids, music)? Xbox360 will not allow me to do this? I am considering purchase of a PS3. Thanks!

As long as it is formated to FAT32, though your 360 should be able to access your External HDD too.

marcusita, I have not formated anything over 40gig yet but can't he just plug the new HD to his pc - Go to My Computer - Select the new HD - Right Click - Format - FAT32 ?? Or is there a Partition setup that normal Formatting wont do?

I'm not trying to walk on your ansewer, I'm courious as well.

I think there is a limit to what size a partition can be formatted on Windows, i think it is something like 80GB, with a special tool, he could format the whole HDD in one go.

Ok. I've aslo heard about a program called Swiss Knive or something like that, that is used for partitioning. I have not looked into any of it.

Yes, Windows itself limits the size of FAT32 partitions (at least XP - I've never tried to format to FAT32 in Vista). I use a small executable called fat32format that does it on the fly. I've done a 500GB NTFS in a few seconds and plugged it straight into my PS3 and it worked. Never used Swissknife. The way I found was so fast and easy, I didn't feel the need to look into it, but I've read many success stories using Swiss Knife.

vista has a limit as well. swissknife works well on xp. i too have a 500gb seagate and i used swissknife on it and it works fine on my ps3. vista does not like swissknife but u can get other programs that will work and its very easy to do.
