A few weeks ago I bought an XBoX 360 with RROD on craigslist for 20 bucks, I have fixed

it, but now within 10 minutes it gets hot and the fans start spinning really fast.

It would be really nice if someone can help me fix this.

make sure your heatsinks are sitting evenly on the chip and that you're using a good silver-based thermal paste like arctic silver

Yeah, it had a reflow done. I think it's a different problem. Oh well. It's just supposed to be like that I guess.

Instead of being sarcastic why not tell us what you're looking for or what you think the "different problem" might be? You came here for help after all, not to tell us "nope you're all wrong" right?

Sorry. I didn't mean to say it that way. So, i think it might STILL be the XClamps that are causing the problem. I'll give my progress when I'm done my Reball and XClamp fix.

And NO I didn't come here to say, "Nope it's a different problem, you're all wrong."

try replacing the x-clamps and either do the 12 volt fan mod or buy a new fan. hope this helps. all my xboxs have the 12 volt mod and they run amazingly cool for hours. oh and listen to w00ly he knows what he is talking about.

how tight are your X Clamps? the 360 usually does that when it's overheating so either bad connection with heat paste or there not tight enough. Also try having the 360 flat, it seems much cooler that way.

I always recommended against over tightening because the solder is brittle as it is and tightening it down too hard can cause the solder to break to the point where it can only be fixed with a reball. You only really need it tight enough so that the chip is making full contact with the heatsink at all points without air pockets.

You're right about laying it horizontal though, standing it up vertically blocks the main air intake on the system.

I don't mean so tight that the motherboard will be under strain just a bit more if it seems a bit weak

Yeah, about that, I fixed it by doing the reball on the CPU and GPU. Also did the Xclamp fix, and 12v fan mod. There's still a problem though, the RRoD comes back every 2 hours or so, so I have to like, pray then it will fix. I don't know how this happens.

    P.S: happy new year everyone!
