What is the best way to back up a server? I have a lot of programs on a server that my company uses daily. I want to be able to backup everything on the server so that if for some reason the server dies altogether, I have a backup I can load onto a new server. Would saving everything to an external hard drive work? Installing Windows and all the programs that are on my server now, onto the external hard drive?
You can ghost your drive daily incase of drive failure. I would ghost my drive everynight at 2am and this saved me from my own destruction somtimes, lol. I use Acronis to make my backups (ghost, whatever you wanna call them) with.
Would ghosting help me if there was motherboard failure or total system failure? Can I ghost onto an external hard drive to solve that problem?
when you ghost your drive you are making an exact copy of your main drive to another HD. you can ghost to an external drive but it might be really slow when you try to recover.
it copies everything, so if you have a virus running around it will copy that too. Its an exact image.
