Please give model-specific info on upgrading firmware
    for the BenQ OEM 1620.

    I have doen the following:

    Run WinDWFlash

    firmware installed:

    B7T9.cvt

    and

    B7T9.rpc1.cvt

    from the Win98 desktop.

    This procedure went successfully.

Is this the correct procedure and are there other
    things I need to know?

Also, where would be the correct forum for a
question on Nero OEM playback? I noticed that
Nero audio player was not playing audio at the same
    levels from both channels.

Is your drive a DW BenQ 1620Pro? If it is you should not need a firmware upgrade. I think you need an operating system upgrade. Windows 98? Do you have the min requirments for the drive.

Mine was an OEM from Newegg. My 'test guy' advised that I
    should.

I am still very green at this.

Haven't tried to do a dvd burn yet. I'm worried about making
coasters. I have 2 prog.s on here: Nero Express that came with
the drive and I got the lated DVD Decrypter.

Other things were pressing: backing up a dual boot of Simply Mepis
and Win98. I have that under control now-- mostly. :)
