Hey please help I have no clue what to do here, basically when I turn on my iMac after the mac loading screen appears, it freezes then I get a "sh-2.05a#" message top left of screen.

Last time I was on iMac was about a week ago, and it worked fine, all I did was copy a video file onto hd, and watched it then shutdown computer.

I've tried google, and came across commands such as "fsck -y" and I've tried booting up OS on disc to use the repair drive feature but still I get problem, so do you have any idea how I can fix this as I really dont wanna have to do a system reboot :( :( thanks in advance

I would check the ram first; I've had similar problems in the past (with a power pc mac). the install disc number 1 has a utility on it that will check your ram. other than that I would try verifying the permissions, then repairing them via disk utility (~/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility). if that does not work you can restore your system (if you have backed up). use disk utility again select you HD then on the right side select restore, chose the backed up data from a mountable source of disk image then the disk to be restored (your HD) and click restore. you will be set. however in the event you didnt back your system up (which is the more likely) you would want to contact either Apple or an authorized reseller.

    good luck
