I have files on my XP PC that I want to access on my Vista PC. How do I do that. I am totally new to sharing files, so go easy on me. Both PCs are connected to the same router. I tried renaming the Workgroups to the same name and it still don't work. Please Help. If this helps, I follwed every single step in this guide except for the printer sharing part. Instead of the laptop, I used my Vista PC.

Did you allow the folder (where files are) on your XP PC to allow for sharing? Depending on location of files, you have to follow a hierarchial structure. If the location of your files is in a subfolder, you must share the folder that it is a part of. Or you can keep all your files you want to share under My Shared Documents and share through that folder. Also, if your XP PC is password protected then you must allow the Vista PC to be an allowed user on XP PC. If this doesn;t help let me know.

What guide did you follow? And if we can get you working I can walk your through printer sharing.

I just decided to keep all my files in My Shared Documents but it still doesn't work. I see that on my XP PC when I go into My Network Places, I have to click on View Workgroup Computers to access my shared documents. I don't see that option om my Vista PC. How to I access shared files on my Vista PC?

If by password protected you mean that I am asked for a password every single time I turn on my PC then no, my XP PC is not password protected. But my Vista PC is.

Here is the guide I followed. Sorry, I must of forgot to post it.

I now see my Vista PC on my XP PC. I went into My Network Places and then clicked View Workgroup Computers. But when I clicked on it, it said this computer is not accessible, the network path was not found. If that doesn't interfere with sharing files from my XP PC to my Vista PC then it doesn't matter. I only need to share files from my XP PC to my Vista PC, not from my Vista to my XP.

I can see my XP PC on my Vista Network Map but can't click on it. My Vista PC is also on the network drive obviously and I can click on it, but I can't click on mine.
