sharing internet

    we have a internet conection through a usb modem with o2. It is connected into the desktop but we would like to share the connection with our wifi laptop.does anyone know what we need and how to do it? Please help, thankyou

    is there an ethernet connection on the modem as usually has both usb & ethernet connections?

    If your modem has an ethernet adapter, all you need is a router. I would go with Linksys; the most commonly found in local stores is the WRT54G model. You can setup with the wizard on the CD as it's very detailed and quite simple; shouldn't take but about 10-15 minutes.

    Basically, the modem plugs into the WAN port on the router via an ethernet cable. Your desktop will plug into one of the available ethernet ports via an ethernet cable. After it's properly setup, you should be transmitting wirelessly and your laptop should find your newly created network.

    no ,there is no ethernet connection it is a small box the size of a box of matches that takes a mobil phone sim card.it only has a usb cable
