When I go to certain pages that require shockwave, first I get a pop-up that says "Click to run an ActiveX control on this webpage" I click OK and then I get the same pop-up again. Except this time, I also get the golden bar that comes at the top of the screen saying that "this site might require the following ActiveX control: 'Shockwave Player 10.1' from 'Macromedia, Inc.'. Click here to install... I click OK on the popup and then click on the golden bar and then click on Install ActiveX Control. I get the same popup again. I click OK and then I get a software installation screen for Shockwave Player 10.1. I click Install and I get the same popup again and then I get a small red X at the top left of the shockwave screen(applet?- I am not sure what it is called with shockwave). I have tried to download it from the shockwave site, but I get the same results. Any ideas as to why this happens. Running windows XP Thanks.
hello when it doesnt install it could be that your windows account doesn't have the required rights to install, and you wont always get a message with those little plugins. So if this is a problem that happens on your work computer, that could be it ! just a suggestion !
This is my home computer, so I don't think that it is a problem with my user rights or anything like that. I am able to download and install other programs. Thanks for the suggestion though. If anyone has any other ideas, I would appreciate your help.
try turning off the pop up blocker, from internet explorer tools>pop-up blocker>turn off pop-up blocker
Thanks, but I have popup blocker turned off already. I have even went to security options and enabled anything with activeX. BUT, still no luck. any other suggestions?
Problem solved. I went to cnet and downloaded shockwave player instead of from the macromedia website. Thanks to all anyways.
