maybe you guys you can do an alternative url that still leads to afterdawn. Something like a-d.com or something? but keeping afterdawn and all its design intact of course.

    Just a suggestion

I think the original URL preserves Afterdawn's authenticity, plus random people won't just happen to arrive to the site. Keeps the site more spam free. If you're having trouble typing it in you can just bookmark it if you haven't.

all i can add is that www.afterdawn.com is incredibly easy to remember (ok i live here most nights but that's not why it's easy to remember!) and very simple to type

If you don't like typing alot, try this:

Just type the following in your address window of your browser:

    [bold]afterdawn[/bold]

Then hold down your control key and hit your enter key. It will finish the [bold]http://www.[/bold] and the [bold].com[/bold] for you. :)

I'm with the others on this. I feel that www.afterdawn.com is easy to remember if u find it hard u can always add it too you favourites listings. And then u just have to go down the list :)

Like ive done with most of the software and guides i feel that i need for laterz....

Yeah, I must say that most acronymn-URL's I hate! One of my colleges was North Georgia College, and the acronym was ngcsu.edu! Why not northgeorgia.edu?

Or another school near mine was Savannah State, and its was savstate.edu? Why not savannah.edu?

Or Georgia Southern's old site was gasou.edu! Now they changed it to georgiasouthern.edu. Good for them.

My whole point is that some abbreviations or acronymns are so obscure that they worsen the problem instead of solving it!

I enjoy the url afterdawn.com--it is easy to remember. Otherwise just bookmark it like I do.

I remember reading a post a long time ago and it was explained... I believe they put some names on paper and picked them out of a hat...
Not too sure i cant find the post or where i read that...

Afterdawn was the best pick : )

Maybe dRD can shed some light on that....

Rosco404: Yes, you do remember correctly. In spring 1999 we (eight original founders of the site) had a IRC meeting about choosing a name for our site. I had previously asked everybody to think of at least 5 good names for a site (and make sure that *.com domain was available for all of those). In the meeting, we presented all the options and everybody had to give votes from 1-5 for each. That then determined the ones who got to the second round, etc. Thus, democratic decision for a name that doesn't mean really anything, just IMO sounds good :)

And no, we dont set up a shorted domain name, unless someone hands out ad.com to us and charges less than $100 for it :)
