I would go with it. The extra amount of memory will help, and since they're pretty cheap you can pick up another down the road for SLi - they are great performers in SLi.

The 9600GT is a decent card, but really, it's not much of an upgrade from your 8800GTS. Either get an 8800GT or don't bother.

no it isn't. We've been over this, the 9600GT only equals the 3870 if AA is applied. Without AA, the 3870 is significantly faster.

anti aliasing - It smooths out jagged lines on the screen and is a huge performance killer.

It's also worth mentioning that nvidia cards don't render AA as well as ATI ones do, which is why they suffer less of a performance drop.

omg sam, youve got tunnel vision. what you say has to be correct; other peopel must be wrong.

hell i gave you a range of sites and results yet you beg not to belive it.

    wtf.

mate you have red colour glasses painted on dont ya?

and read most of the other results and youll see they are matched, with out AA about 40% 3870s are better.

you think crysis is a crap bench (which youve said before) then you link me to it.

i remain non bias by putting results of heavily played games, and it shows the 3870 and 9600GT the SAME.

And you come stating facts you saw from random site and assume them to be entirely accurate.
Crysis is a bench which is skewed in nvidia's favour, which is why it isn't entirely accurate - even more meaningful then that the ATI card performs better under it. Overall, the difference between the 9600GT and HD3870 is very slight, but very slight differences seem to make the world of difference in this world of fanboyism, see 8800GTS vs 8800GT and 8800GT vs HD3870. A 10% difference is nowadays considered significant, a downside of the stagnation of the graphics industry, everybody is grabbing at the single extra frame per second, it's pathetic.

i think its a great card for the cash but will it be instantly outdated if i buy this week?

Being outdated uber-quick is inevitable unfortunately, getting an 8800GTS G92 kind of prevents that. for $200 you should go for it.

Personally i would stick with what you have got. All said and done there is not that much difference to render the upgrade to be honest.

The upgrade is going to be slight, but it really depends on how much wheelstb feels he/she needs the upgrade. You're probably only really looking at a 20-25% performance boost unless you're running out of VRAM. Unless you're using resolutions higher than 1280x1024, it would be wise to hang on to the old card or spend more. If you are using higher resolutions though, the new card may well help you out a lot.
