Next week I will be posting my experience soldering a DMS4 Pro SE into a v7 playstation. The short version is:

Unless you enjoy soldering and want to improve your electronics skills, I would recommend that you get someone else to do it. Mine worked fine, but being the perfectionist that I am, I quadruple checked everything and it took me about ten hours (there were more blunders, but nothing serious... more to come next week!)

    On the positive side:
You may gain something useful from this experience
You may save money (depending on the equipment you need to buy)
    And oh the personal satisfaction!

Most of the negatives are obvious (possible damage, equipment needed, the uber-stress involved :) etc...)

One thing many don't consider is the "opportunity cost" in units of time... yes.. laugh all you want. However, in the 10 hours that it may take you to put in your modchip, can you do 50$ worth of something else? What is your time worth?

    ~N.
