I am buying a new samsung 61' tomorrow it has a vga port as well as hdmi. I am reading on here DVI to HDMI doesn't look that good is that true? I thought it should be better but if not I wont go waste buying a cord for it. I want to watch HD movies from my PC so which would look better on my tv. Also what should I set my resolution at for real HD.

That was completley the wrong advice.
For HD video , or any video for that matter a DVI or HDMI digital connection will be better than analogue VGA.
It is true that VGA can often seem better for general use of windows, that depends on your preferences.
As for resolution, your HDTV should accept 1920 x 1080i or possibly 1920 x 1080P.
Don't forget about HDCP encryption on High def disks that means your TV and Graphics card will need to be HDCP compliant, if not you have to use the VGA connection but the resolution will be brought back down to SD by the software player such as powerDVD. This is a limitation imposed if there is no HDCP "handsahke".
