Hi, I have a 3100 (current service) and a 6820 (previously owned, and unlocked). Into the 6820 I have put my current 3100 SIM and current 3100 battery (identical batteries), SO, now I see my current 3100 service provider name on the screen at startup, but all data (phone numbers, etc) is still "haunting" from the original 6820 .. ?? I don't see my 3100's numbers or anything else that resembles my 3100 ... WHAT!? Do I need to "drain" memory somehow? What to do? Thanks in advance to anyone who can come to the rescue. -RGB
you dont see them becuase they arent there you will have saved the phone onto your internal memory on the 3100, not on the sim card
So, then, the SIM doesn't contain any personal info? I thought that was the whole idea and purpose behind the SIM - that you could "transfer" your personal info to any other phone simply by changing the SIM ...? Any ideas as to what to do now? - RGB
yes that is the idea of a sim card, if you tell it too save too it phones as standard will try to save to the phones memory, coz theres more of it only thing i can think of is connecting your 3100 to your pc, transferring the contacts into outlook or a nokia pc of software, then connecting your new phone to it and then copy them across ive had problems like this in the past, i had to write them all down perhaps on your 3100 you could resave them to sim, there must be an option for that
Hmm, ok I could try that - to get my 3100 onto the taht SIM. What about "flushing" the memory on the 6820, to get rid of that old info? How would I do that?
heres your answer Instructions for copying phone numbers to and retrieving them from your SIM card are phone model-specific and provided in your phone models' user guides. (Refer to your previous model's user guide for information on copying data and your new model's user guide for information on retrieving data.) For many Nokia phone models, however, the process goes something like this: do this on your 3100 1. With your previous phone, select Contacts 2. Select Options -> Mark All 3. Select Options -> Copy to SIM direct. 4. Select the contact details (for instance All) that you want to copy Once the contacts have been copied, remove the SIM card from your previous phone, insert it into your new phone, and copy the contacts to your new phone's memory: do this on your 6820 5. Select Contacts 6. Select Options -> SIM directory 7. Select Options -> Mark All 8. Select Options -> Copy to Contacts that should sort it, im goin to uni now, let me know if it worked
Well it worked ... sort of. Copying all resulted in a individual listing for each number of each contact, so if, for example, I had two phone numbers (one cell, one home) for say Alan, and and address as a note, it would now list "Alan", and "Alan1" - without stating which was which, and it dumped all notes and addresses for each contact. Does it work properly with the PC Suite software - I really don't want to go out a buy a $60 (ouch!) Nokia data cable if it won't work ..? (my old 3100 does not have infrared - the new 6820 does) There is an option to delete all, but it asks for a security code - I have never set a security code, can't change it without the current one. Is there a default code for all phones?
0000 it maybe but i wouldnt like you to try it incase it blocks your phone the code should be in the manual of your phone
