I am wondering if anyone can recommend a benchmark (ala Tom's hardware?) that tests single-threaded applications only.
Any idea where I can find benchmark results for Prime95 (or any other single-threaded benchmark)? I googled it and all I found was ways to test your own CPU. I want to be able to compare CPUs to help me decide which one to purchase.
Why are you looking at benchmarks for CPUs? Just tell us what your budget is and we'll get you the best CPU for that price.

Well, basically this is how it is. CPU Revision: This is what matters the most. A specific version of a CPU will perform differently to an older version at the same clock speed, manufacturers are always changing things. Cache: The more cache a CPU has, the (slightly) faster it is, and the bigger the program it can run without needing to use RAM. Clock speed: Fairly obvious, the higher the clock speed, for the same CPU at least, the faster it gets, linearly. Cores: Depends which program you use, but multi-threaded applications often take full use of extra cores as if they were doubling the speed of your existing processor. Brand: Intel vs. AMD. On the whole, Intel produce better products throughout the range for any given price. However, in certain video editing programs, AMD CPUs fare better. If you use one, would be worth doing some research on how they fare in your program.
