    Hello everyone,

I've recently tried to burn some of my movies (approx. 2+ hrs long) onto a DVD-R, and I'm wondering if there's any good advice for the type of DVD-R to buy and what software to use for burning so it will play in a stand-alone DVD player. I have no problems creating the VIDEO_TS folder and its contents.

    My DVD Player: Cyberhome CH-300
    DVD-Rs Used: Philips 1-8x, 4.7 GB & Spin-X 4x, 4.7 GB
Software: Nero Burning Rom version 6
    DVD Burner: Toshiba

Using Nero + the Philips makes the movie almost unplayable, skipping every other second & the screen would checkerboard as well. Nero + Spin-X seemed to work better, but it would still skip every 5-10 seconds or so.

According to the videohelp.com website, my Cyberhome player shouldn't have any trouble playing Philips DVD-Rs, so I'm wondering if it's an issue with the DVD-R I'm using or if it's a problem with Nero? Is it a problem with the speed of the DVD-R?

    Thanks!

    I agree with 300Bowler

    Get better media.
Make sure you are burrning at 4x no slower or half the speed that the media is. if it is 4x or 8x burn at 4x If it is 16x then burn at 8x

Below is a site that tells you what Class media you have. In order to find what class media you have you need to find out what the manufatures ID is. There is a few ways to do this.

    Using DVD Decypter...

    Using Imageburn...

    Using Neros Info Tool...

As you can see the manufature ID# on my media is TYGO2 which are 1st class media.

If your media ID# is listed 2nd class or below then you need better media. For video you want to use 1st Class media.

Below is the guide to the media classes...

Thank you both! I've found some Verbatim brand DVD-Rs and will be purchasing those.
