I have been able to copy many Dvds using DVD shrink and burn with nero 6 . But i have recently come across a problem...
after buring the disc about half way into the movie it starts to skip and freeze. Sometime goes compeltly blank and says unable to read disc.

So can any one help me to cure this new problem ?
i am not sure if it is a burn problem or a media problem ?

    i has not mattered if i burn at X2 , X4, or X8
and i currently have memorex dvd +r X8 media

any sugestions on what to do ?

There's your problem....get some quality media...TY's or Verbs.

aky is right, buy some MCC Verbatims today, they are just as cheap as memorex. I ahve never had problems with Verbs yet.

Use DVD Identifier or the disc utility in Nero to check for the manufacturer code. CMC is a major supplier of Memorex recordable media. Many dislike the CMC product. When I used some CMC, I got a few coasters. I'm not sure if it was the media or some software problems I was having at the time. Irregardless, I'm not running out to get more CMC media to find out.

As for burning at 8X, that's courting trouble. Try slowing down the burn speed to see if that helps. Many people burn no faster than 4X. I see no problem of burning a bit faster if the media and hardware can handle it, but when trouble comes up, that's the first thing I suggest, slow down to 4X and see if that helps. Make sure your firmware for the burner is up to date.

I agree, the Verbatim by Mitsubishi is usually high quality. However, being sure you get MCC can be something of a problem. Seems Verbatim sells media made by CMC as well. If you can see made in Japan on the packaging, you have a better chance, but then you may get TY, but that is another quality manufacturer. Seeing AZO on the Verbatim is another good indicator. Usually MCC and the TY can be found in the DataLifePlus media. I've found some of the Taiwan manufactured media to be good as well. It's hard to beat Ricoh and I've found that in Verbatim's DataLife line. What's disconcerting is getting CMC and realizing that is the same stuff that gave Memorex a bad name.

    brobear,
You are right, all data life verbatims i have bought have been MCC, and i would hope all verbs would be the same:)

Burning at 4x is my standard as it gives high quality(no error) burns but also doesnt have you waiting all night for the disk to burn.

As for cmc, i used to use them (memorex dvd-r), never made a coaster(burned at 2x), but i have read that they start reading major errors after a year.

I wouldn't worry too much about the CMC you have recorded. As long as you store them properly, they will probably out last you with care. A bunch of the tests used to age media are things a person woud never do to a disc. Now if you stored your DVDs on the dash of a car during the day in the middle of a desert and then put them on ice at night in the Arctic and played them in a tropical monsoon, then maybe the media would act up.

The CMC Memorex looks so much like the others, I lost them in the collection of backups. I know the CMC are well over a year old, yet I haven't started getting bad reads yet. Usually if they play well the first time, they continue to do so. The Verbatim DataLife I got at Sams the last time were Ricoh. Most of the major suppliers are decent. The MCC and TY are touted to be higher quality, but the Ricoh I've used has been good. Except for the coasters, even the CMC did a decent job and I can't be sure it was the media. However, I'm not running out to get more CMC when I can be sure of other media I've used in the past. Now if CMC wanted to donate some media, I'd give it a good test. Not likely to happen though.
