Is the skull trail worth it? Or should I just wait for a 8 core cpu? I would mainly use it for gaming plus quad sli or quad crossfire with 16 gb ram. I know games cant take 8 cores but is it worth it?

Skulltrail is LGA771 which means processors for it cost a fortune. If money really is no object, triple-SLI (quad SLI does not work with four individual cards, it can only be done with two dual cards like 9800GX2s) will work, with a pair of quad cores, but it's 5x as much money for less than double the performance of a single slot board with a standard CPU like a Q9650 and Radeon HD4870X2.

In a word No it is not really worth it, and i would say that even if money is no object. The skulltrail uses some varient of SD ram i think (dont quote me on that) so its actually a bottleneck no matter how much you have because it is slower.

plus you are never goin to need anything with eight cores for years yet....

they did some benchmarks in custom pc and it worked out even with all the power skulltrail was slower than a comparable quad core system.

I would reccommend the fastest quad core intel you could buy, maybe the cpu and graphics sammorris suggested in crossfire with 8gb of ddr2/3 ram if you really want to push the boat out

irrespective of the on-paper specifications, it can game well, and none of the bottlenecks seem evident for that, but it is a colossal waste of energy and money.
