at the minute there is no fix for n3(what virgin is switching over to)options are limited to a dish and free to air reciever(for all free channels on the sky satellite, which is quite a few) or some kind of box capable of card shareing. for the later you need a box capable of sharing(the cheapest being the dm500c c=cable or dm500s s=satellite)depends on what you want( i would go for the satellite, atleast then you allways have many free channels)if the worsy happens.

thanks for the reply, i have read a few threds but still not clear on what to do.

i am a sports fan so i would realy want all the SP channels, Sly1 and maybee some movies along withe the free channels is this possible wiht the card sharing system?

in your reply you mention the cable version but is that not going to be made redundant once it goes N3?

    cheers again

ok so i now know the following.

i need a sky dish with lnb ect.
    a dreambox of some sort
    an internet connection.

with my cable i split the signal off upstairs to another box what is the options with this on sat? dose it come straight from the lnb? i am assuming i will need another dreambox for this?

can anyone reccomend a good cs site or service that is reliable and is there for me if i need technical help? i need all sly channels especialy sports and prefreably hd?

if i subscribe to a cs service will this allow me to use the same details on both boxs in my house?

is there anyone in leicestershire on here who has a sat setup?

    cheers again.

a good site to look at is cs kings,as you say you need a dish pointed at the sly satellite or what ever satellite has the channels you want,a broadband connection, a box like the dm500s and an ethernet cable to connect the box to the broadband router. a pay server will give you all the channels you mentioned. you wont be able to share what channels you buy to a second box in the house, for that you will need to pay them twice. there are some threads on this site you can read to help you, but its important to know that while its not very hard to achieve what you want it takes a bit of learning and lots of reading. its also important to be carefull talking about this topic so as not to break any forum rules. we will try to help you where we can.

the dreambox 800 has a few versions , the sd(standard defination) the hd(hi defination)the pvr(personal video recorder) and the hd pvr model,as far as i know. i dont know if your external hdd will fit to it via usb. you need to check around the net for info on this. as for a supplier it varies from person to person(as they say one mans ceiling is another mans floor) i could say dvb monkey but others will say dont go there.there are only a few free hd channels on the sky satellite(itv/bbc/ch4/e4) so the box you mention is expensive, you need to have a think and a look around the net as i say to figure out the options you have to get the most from this box.

Could be wrong but to my knowledge there is only one version of the DM800 and that includes HD and PVR. If you want a genuine one go to www.satstore.co.uk (cost sterling 389). DM800 supports both USB and Esata hard disk. I use 1TB Esata hard disk and works a treat. I suggest that you buy dm800 first, connect your USB hard disk and see how it works. If speed is an issue I recommend esata
