I have a Skype cordless phone made by V-tech. The phone plugs into the usb port. Skype is my only Home phone service. Vtech phone suite operates on windows.

Can I fake out the program to think it is running off Windows instead of Ubuntu?

I would like to try unbutu but will not risk loosing my cordless phone service.

I must admit to a strong dislike for microsofty
So I have already checked V-tech site to see if
they had a software suite to run off linux

There is a version of Skype for linux. So worst case you're just going to need a different handset if you can't get it to work. I personally don't use it though, there are better IAX/SIP voip solutions that just plug directly into a router, so beyond having the hardware recognised I can't help much. I do have an account with one provider, but I'm forced to have a land line phone account in order to have internet, so don't use it.

Type "dmesg | tail" and "lsusb" into a terminal window and paste the results.
