I when i get bored of the moaning of my pc when im trying to use xp on this pathetic exscuse for a P3 i run my SLAX linux live cd. i think it is a brilliant os but needs some work, i have a Speedtouch 110 wirelss card for this laptop. linux claims to have found the pc card slot, but not the pc card in it. despite the power light coming on on the card. the card works fine in xp. i have tried all the built in tools but only know a little bit about os' so am being baffeled by too much information on the slax linux website, help please anyone!!

If slax doesn't work out of the box theres not much you can do.. Slackware in general isn't the most wireless friendly distro. A quick look on any linux site will tell you that wireless networking with linux is a very hit and miss affair. It's probably not got the driver for your card...what to suggest... Find exactly what card it is and post for help on the slax main forums??

Research report.. Are you using the slax "popcorn" release with ndiswrapper?
(I don't do wireless networks..too much rf interference here..that's all I can find)

im just looking for a free os that will actually download nd is easy run like the slax live cd is. this pc is the only one that works atm nd i dont wanna mess about with the bios trying to dual boot. xp is just too slow. i just wish slax linux would find my wireless card. i cant put the wireless card cd in cus the live cd uses the cd drive. i suppose if i posted on the main slax site i wud get a reply. all i know about my wireless card is what it says on the botom of it, it is a pcmcia it is a speedtouch 110. .... just annoys me that there is nowhere to download phat linux from.... cus that sound the ticket too me

we'd all (sometimes) like things to just work, but everything usually takes a bit of work, after all, life would be boring if everything just worked :p

Slax popcorn edition has ndiswrapper included. You will probably need the card driver on a floppy or similar so that you can load it with the live cd after booting. Of course there is always puppylinux.. They have a very good little distro which is lean and mean. and because of the way it works you can save things either to a r/w cd or a folder on the hdd.. That may be just the thing.
Wireless network hardware + linux = headaches..

    - yeah, like Jan says, it's a tad convoluted sometimes; luckily in Mandriva (up tp 2006 anyway) it's real easy, with 2007 it's slightly different, but not all distro's are as straightforward with Wireless
