Havn't been on this site for a while, and have just seen the "ask a question" part, but i figured this would be better, please don't shout at me! So basically i'm buying a new 4gb slim console, got no intentions of flashing it. I do however want to upgrade it with a hard drive, i have seen you can simply slot into place a hard drive from an existing older xbox (taken out of the case) into it, however my question is; if i use any hard drive i.e one taken out of a usb portable drive, is it possible to use on the xbox, or do i need to run software on it to get it to be formatted correctly, or can the xbox do that? Hope this made sense! Harvey
You're half right. The hard drive is the same type of hard drive found in the older xbox 360(2.5 sata). However, the hard drive goes into a different style case for the slim model. I found one in the proper casing to fit the 4GB Slim model (250GB) on ebay for under $50 shipped. It came from china, and it's probably a knock-off, but it works great. I ordered on a Monday and received it on the very next Monday. I hope this helps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKnaixPCsns this is the video i have watched, in it he doesn't even use a case, it just works with the bare drive on its own, however clearly he is using one used on another xbox with xbox data etc. still on it. I want to know if i can do the same thing but rather than with a hard drive from an older xbox, i use one from an old usb external drive. thanks
Can I buy a larger compatible hard drive (ex. 500gb) and install it to my 4gb slim. I know I need a hard drive cover but do I have to flash the hard drive as well for it to be detected? Don't want to get ban.
No you can't as the hard drive has certain files that it will need to be detected, and if there missing you won't get far, it will not be detected at all.
