Slow Bit Torrent downloads? Router configuration tips.

im on the website but it make no sense just got a list of different names and numbers in front of me

i go onto www.mininova.org,
i download this file...

i right click it save target as onto my desktop

it opens my bitlord program and i see

and 0% and 0KB/s

ive tried the same with others aswell like azerus,turbo torrent.+ more..

also when just opening bitlord with nothing downloading in the search bar it has ,,,
action cancelled same with turbotorrent.

 

i just opened ports from 6881 to 6889 . and it worked and gree nsmily face came from yellow face. but the speed is still around 50s is it ok or i need to do something else to speed it up more. thanks

 

dreamer as we have stated many times, there are lots of reasons the download can be slow the main 2 problems are Router issues and the amount of seeds and leechers, in your case its probably the amount of seeds and leechers, and the other main problem is people dont like to share files, (they like to download them but not share them), so alot of the losers out there turn their upload speed down to 5K or less, which will make your download speeds slow!!!!!!!!!!

 

And FOXES, if your expecting someone to hold your hand and tell you step by step what to do to set up port forwarding on your router, your gonna wait a long time, if you cant understand WWW.PORTFORWARD.COM then your best bet is to call a professional like GEEKS ON CALL, and pay them to do it, or ship your computer and router to me (shipping per paid of course) and i will have no problem charging you alot of money to do it for you!!!

Oh my God! I have been so frustrated for so long by my inability to get a green light using BitTornado w/ a D-Link 614+ & SBC Global DSL.

After googling for some help, I came here, and without even having to register, I browsed through some people's topics. I ended up going to portforward.com (where I had been before) & to D-link's website. I used D-link's recommended settings (which I had previously entered slightly wrong). I was typically getting anywhere from 10 to 40 kb/sec downloads - and constantly with a yellow light. I just looked at something I am d/l'ing right now - get this - 150 kb/s w/ a green light! WOW!!!! Not only are my d/l's 5-15 times faster (insert huge smile here), but I am sure that my u/l rates will increase dramatically as well (no more feeling like a schmuck for not u/l'ing anything).

The correct D-Link page took a minute to find, but here it is:

Iv portforwarded 6881-6889 tcp and udp. I'v turned off the windows XP firewall and Mcafee. Even after doing all that I am still getting yellow lights while using bittorrent. I use azureus. I have tried bitornado aswell. Iv never gotten a green light before!! My speeds usually go over 20 but recently they refuse to even go over 5kb/s!!

What more can I do? I keep gettin NAT errors!!!

shadyi - find your router here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm and select the program you are using for your torrent downloads. The website was on the 48th page; something tells me you just scanned the pages.

 

Hi guys, I'm also having a problem and its been driving me crazy for about a month or so now.. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 and the Sprint Prestige 645 Series, I used to use Cox ISP, and with that I found how to easily open the ports up for Bit Tornado, ( Used to be 192.168.1.1 and got green light without really messing with the ports).. Now with Sprint it changed to 192.168.2.1.. I tried opening the port ranges 6881-6889 with protocol TCP and UDP opened. However when I open Bit Tornado , I get the yellow light. Its been quite a hassle, I've googled for this, but I've yet to find something that might help me.. I'm downloading 5kB/s - 25kb/S max, I'm using Windows XP and I know my firewall is down and I did do the cmd --> ipconfig to check to see wether I had the correct IP adress. In anycase sorry for the hassle i'm not really good at this kind of stuff, but Thanks in advance!!

 

aw comon! no one helped me yet! lol... Uh... ib opened the correct ports and offed my firewalls. But im still getting NAT errors. Im not connecting to all seeds and peers either... eg i would connect to 50 peers if there were 400 so im not getting good speeds. Anyone got any suggestions? Iv tried using alternate ports instead of using 6881.

um... using windows xp. Have adsl 512mb connection i think. I hope that helps a bit better,lol

Im using a AMX-64 ADSL Router by ADSL Nation.... I couldnt find it there but i know that i have my ports forwarded. My firewalls are all off aswell. Someone said that my ISP might be blocking the routers so that even if I opened the ports it wouldnt change anything. Could this be happening to me?

 

force34 - It's possible that your ISP is blocking those ports (You could call them and ask). You could try Port Triggering; also I don't know whether your router has the DMZ host feature, if it does enable it for your IP. Also changing your LISTENING port on Azureus could help (I use 19991 for my client), dont forget to open that port as well in your router settings.

hey, i followed all the tutorials, i have a x-micro 11g wireless router. by speeds with bittorrent before were under 10kbs/sec. after the modifications, i reached 24kbs/sec peak. shouldnt they be faster? i followed everything correclty. the firewall tutorial wasnt listed, but i think i gave access correctly. so are those the fastest ill be able to get them or can i change something else? thanks.

i have cable modem, comcast. firewall, i have on my router and windows firewall is setup. i have x-micro 11gW router.

also, how do you remove a password from a .rar archive?

 

bizzE - Looking at the http://www.comcast.com/ website looks to me that ur minimum avaliable plan offers a theoretical speed of around 94kb/s down. So looking at that lets just assume ur on that plan. I would say first you should turn of ur winXP default firewall and use a secondary firewall (I personally use Norton Personal Firewall). Now after that lets just say everything is setup a.O.K; ur final prob could just b those ppl that dont share (YES WE ALL HATE THEM!!!) thus not enough seeders or that ur location is effected such that ur located in the UK and the file your downloading is shared by some1 in Australia (It's all a web bouncing back and forth therefore losing speed as it bounces back to you). Hi chocfiend or anyone,

I have done port forwarding and everything discussed here but is still getting speeds at 3-5kb/s. I use 2 Wire HG1800 and this router is listed at portforward.com. I followed the exact instructions already and open 6881 for Azureus but the speeds aren't getting any better. I'd be glad if we could discuss it over msn. Please add me at valleeny@hotmail.com Thanks!
