I have question also. I have very fast internet, I think its about 3-4 mbps. When I download files from HTTP, I get about 300-400 kbps, but when I start BitComet, or uTorrent, it is maximum 60-70. I have router, but I don't know is it causes the problem.

hey everyone i dunno if u can help me but i wait with hope.... im a complete n00b as far as torrent d/l is concerned, i am in the uk have a 10mb connection and am using a linksys wireless-G wrt54gs router. i have performed the port forwarding tasks that the majority of ppl said helped them, i have made exeptions in the XP service pack 2 firewall and have even disabled it alltogether, i have also established a static IP. i use both azureus and BitTorrent to download and find that i get similar speeds with both but BitTorrent is slightly quicker.

ppl speak about speads of over 200kb/s on a 2mb connection through these bit torrent clients and i have downloaded at over 400kb/s from certain HTTP's but download at an average of 30kb/s with a high of approx 50kb/s

i have alo adjusted some of the settings restricting the max global uploads to 10kb/s and the max global downloads to 0 "i.e Unlimited"

is there anyhing else that i can possibly do to increase my d/l speeds

your help would be greatly appreciated and if you are feeling paticulaly generous u could do so through my msn "cs_macker@hotmail.com"

    thx

One more helpful hint...unless you are METICULUS about remembering passwords do not change or assign a new password to your router setup page.

Are you an idiot ? sorry no insult intended but this is really NOT A GOOD IDEA !!

ALWAYS change your password !! take a sharpie and WRITE IT directly onto the bottom of the router. Worried about someone getting it by LOOKING ? well sorry pal if the hacker is IN YOUR HOUSE you have more serious issues than your router password :)

    Hello everyone,

I too come to the folks at afterdawn.com to aid me in my bit tornado struggles.

    Here is the situation...

I have a Bell Sympatico Speedstream modem, that runs into my DI-604 D-Link router. That then runs up to my computer.

Running my ethernet through my router I am getting Error connecting to tracker and 0kb/s etc. I added the 6881-6999 ports to my router but still the same results.

I also added 6881 - 6890 to my windows firewall thing on TCP and UDP...

Ideally I would like to be able top run thru my router while dling torrents.

I also tried running straight from my modem to my computer. I was then experiencing about 15kb/s but always the YELLOW LIGHT!

    -----

I have a Kerio Firewall and the nvidia nforce firewall aswell as avast anti virus. First off I told them all to allow Bittornado and secondly I just disabled them all. I also added Bittornado to the windows firewall exceptions and then turned it off.

I really have no other ideas of what to do, I cant get rid of thew yellow light no matter what I try, it may have something to do with ports...

    Any help is greatly apreciated.

hey Nevalite, well i can help as much i know about, becoz this way really helped me to boost my dl speeds, i will suggest you to install bittornado, as bittorrent client, in bittornado go to pref. change ports from 10000 to 10010, and open these ports in router settings, for more info you can visit www.portforward.com, will provide you step by step settings, af any other quieries do lemme know...

    Hello again.

I have made a static ip and i set my bit tornado to use ports 50000-50010. Then I went into my router in the virtual server part and I forwared ports 50000-50010 to the static ip i created.

I turned off all firewalls and use the port forwarding I set up but I am still getting a yellow light, its not even getting 1kb/s!!! It says connecting to peers for like 10 minutes......

WTH is wrong with my conection!??!?!!

Even at my other house where I have a Cable modem and NO router I am experiencing only about 10kb/s. I have a green light but it stays at a max of about 10kb/s. I feel it is the same factor limiting both computers, what could it be?

All firewalls are off, windows fw allows BT, i have the green but its just so SLOW, this is a really well seeded torrent btw.

how about turning OFF the windows firewall and see what happens (make sure you reboot first and give it time they always start off slow and then pick up speed as you get more of the file)

windows firewall sucks anyway nothing but problems. I use McAfee personal firewall (only the firewall)

I also consistently got the 10-20kb I gave up on bit torrent for a year or so I got tired of uploading at 35-40kb and only getting 5-10 in return.

Once I found out about the ports (it was not a big thing to me so I never bothered to look into it again until podcasting started to use Bit Torrent) within 20 minutes of changing those ports (I just opened and forwaded the whole lot of them) I saw dramatic improvement. what once took 4 days now took a few hours !! nice.

nevalite, i know the feeling, i have a 10mb(T3) connection into a linksys wrt54gs router and then into my comp (Personally Built). i have opened a number of different prots in the "port forwarding" feature in my browser and neither one seems to make much difference. i have also set up a static ip and have disabled my firewall altogether.

although i am capable of 30kb/s i still feel hard done by as i have read many ppl with a 2mb connection are getting in the regions of 240kb/s so y aren't i?

if anyone knows or has any idea's pls post a reply, i speak for myself when i say i would be really greatful but im sure nevalite would be too

also its possible your ISP is packet shaping IE throttle torrent traffic. !! I am not sure how to determine this though.

How can I get it to go higher, what is stoping it!??!

    THanks

To all noobies, first-turn off windows firewall ( doesn't work anyway). second-try Azureus, third-on your router make sure you have entered the ip address of the computer you are using the bit torrent client on, ie. my conps ip address on the network is 192.168.1.100 and i have 2 others that end 101 and 102, this really is easy with a Linksys router. third use any other port number but 6881-6889 as your innternet service may be throttling back on these, BT traffic accounts for over 30% of all internet traffic in use today and they will block it during peak hours. fourth-go to portforward.com and follow the instuctions to the letter. fith-make sure Azureus has the decentelised tracking checked as this will alow a more consistant tracking of your torrents, and under options,conections,tcp/udp incoming listing port enter the port number you want to use, then go to options, tracker, client then enter the same number, then click on server, http-allow port number +1, https, allow port number +1, then plug ins, allow UPnP, then distibuted db,enter port number same as first one, also under tracker is where you can change the tracking protocol as i said above use decentalised not one of the others. Hope this helps, ans remember the speeds are only as good as the seeders conection/setup will allow, my speeds vary fom 1 or 2 bites to 750kps depending on where i get the tarrents and the time of day, so good luck, Craig G.

PS. on the Linksys router make sure you name the sevice as Azur1 or 2 depending on which versin you have.

ok u might of already tried this but here goes anyways, you might have 2 unblock it through norton anti virus, what i did was

open up norton anti virus-> options-> internet worm protection-> trojan rules-> scrolled down and unchecked "unused windows services Block" then clicked ok and ok again, and my NAT error turned green and my dl jumped up 20-30 kbps (to around 60-80). HOPE THIS HELPS, reply if it does
