i recently got a Philips SPD3600CC 20x external usb dvd burner. I enabled nero to show the ACTUAL burn speed instead of the selected burn speed. the burner will get to 9.5x then it will start slowing down and stay at 7.9x. I am using tdk 16x dvd-r media. It takes about 7 minutes for the dvd to burn. Is it just me, or is this product defective? All application are shut down when burning and i am not doing anything else on my laptop. Any input appreciated.
is this just a case of bad dvd media? should i get dvd+r instead

Sometimes speed kills to get a good disc I would use Verbatim disc at 4x or 8x max and use all of the best quality modes (never drink wine before it time)

while burning a DVD the speeds of the actual burning will fluctuate up and down..... it will never be a constant rate! so when it says burning at 8x, expect fluctuations depending on the device buffer and the media in use!
