All of a sudden my burner isn't working correctly. It is capable to burn music cd's at 24x. It can burn DVDs at 8x. The DVDs burn just fine. When i burn a music cd it will only burn it at 4x. It just recently started doing this. What is the problem and how can i deal with it?
What's the noise level like while burning? Gotten worse lately? Could be just that it's going to meet it's maker or perhaps the PIO/DMA settings have gone askew. W2k pro and xp pro, just go to Device manager and check. Vista...i can't help out where to go with it, perhaps it's vaguely similar. Just in case..... have you made any software changes that might relate to this prob? like, up-dates etc etc.
The computer is only a couple months old. I haven't changed anything recently. It doesn't make any odd noises. When i put in a blank cd it won't even let me choose the 24x speed. I don't know what to do. It's starting to aggravate me.
Well at least we can rule out the probability of the drive going to god. Have you checked DEvice manager? The DMA settings can change when burning errors occur. Changing speeds is obviously software related, but what software and version are you using? The more info the merrier. Aggravation~microsoft = same thing i thought. LOL
Oh dear...Nero 8 you say? I installed 8.1.2.0 on w2k plus xp and trust me, nothing was predictable. The amount of pc freezing on xp was horrific, and w2k.... well it didn't fair too much better. This author will wait until much better reviews are written. Unless that version is the OEM (the one you got with the machine), my advise would be to dump it. One tip that might help out when or if you return the goods for service, is that they almost always try to put you on the back foot. Stand your ground. Admit nothing, be insistant and above all...be polite. Best wishes. EDIT: ps: With w2k, it (nero) will copy a cd in seconds flat and even give the all clear. Shame there's nothing on the copied cd though.
