HELP!!! my computer startup and shutdown speed seem to be decreaseing by the day. the last time i reformated my computer it would loadup in about 1 min. and shut down in 1 min. with 256 MB of memoery. over the course of time 1 min. went up to 5min. after installing another 512 MB it was about 1 1/2 min. start and 30 sec. shutdown. now its more than 5 min. start and 2 min. shutdown!!! and it only seems to take more time as i do it. also it freezes whenever i leave it on and dont use it for even 2 min. i have the latest versions of NORTON ANTIVIRUS, SPYWARE DOCTOR, and ASO2. i do disk clean up regularly. i tried to do security check at startup, but it says my system is NTFS and i cant, thats never happend before! PLZ HELP!!! the programs on task manager that i dont recognize and that seem to take up the RAM are...

    alg.exe
    wkgdcach.exe
    spoolsv.exe
    brsso1a.exe
    brsvc1a.exe

what are these and how do i delete them? ive never seen them before and when i end them it doesnt do anything to my computer. are they the reason?

Well, all seem alright except for the last two you listed. They may be part of a program file that you currently have installed. You can check out the following links on the others.

    http://process.networktechs.com/alg.exe.php
    http://process.networktechs.com/wkgdcach.exe.php
    http://torque.oncloud8.com/archives/000384.html

If you notice the alg.exe can be used as a Trojan so read up on it. If all else fails check the knowledge base at microsoft.com. The file is actually used for your firewall. By disabling it you also in turn disable your firewall client.

Here is an explanation of what the programs that you don't recognize are:

[bold]alg.exe[/bold] = a part of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It is a core process for Microsoft Windows Internet Connection sharing and Internet connection firewall.

[bold]wkgdcach.exe = is a Windows System File and should be in a system directory.[/bold]

[bold]The spoolsv.exe[/bold] file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, spoolsv.exe is a virus, spyware, Trojan or worm!

I think [bold]spoolsv.exe[/bold] will be you're problem. I did a little more research on it and it seems to be slowing down ppl's PC's by eating up there ram ...

sorry i don't know what the last two are.

My advice: download AVG(CAUSE NORTON isn't doing the job)and run a scan and it will find the viruses.. on you're PC and then simply delete them.

Otherwise you might need to upgrade you're computer.

In addition to what has been said, Norton products from 2005 and 2006 are notorious for extremely slow shutdowns. I run Norton SystemWorks 2005 Pro, and they never did fix the problem of slow shutdowns.

I have used Norton products for years, and if it wasn't for Norton WinDoctor, I would switch to something else. I have not found anything that I like better than WinDoctor. There are many registry cleaners out there, but none that I have seen are as safe to use as WinDoctor.
