hi all.i have a dell precision m20 with windows xp .have kersparsky and also run cc cleaner from time to time.when i connect to explorer 7 it takes ages for my google home page to open and then ages for wotever web page to load.im using a broadband usb at the mo because moneys tight its only 7.2mbps.is this the problem or is it my laptop?its driving me potty.thanks in advance
If the USB adapter is rated for 7.2 mbps then it shouldn't be a problem even if its not reaching that potential. It definitely sounds like the hardware is just getting outdated. I know people hate saying that because it makes you think of spending money on newer stuff, but as they update the software they also expect more performance out of the average computer. So if you are sure you don't have malware (trojans, viruses, worms, etc.) then its probably just a sign of the everyday advancement of technology... Hope this gives you an idea. What do others think on this???
only have the usb hub 2wks now.kaspersky is not picking anything up as in virius .dont know what i can do ?any ideas?thanks for reply ur a star
I don't know what the other guys think yet but have you tried a different browser to see if it helps any. If that doesn't work then try some more of the maintainance programs that we suggest you use in the stickied posts at the top of the thread list. Hopefully its just the browser, but I just thought of another thing it could be: RAM. If you haven't done any hardware upgrades then it might be time to invest in some RAM (usually the cheapest best upgrade you can get for your computer). It looks like you only have 256 mb and that really isn't enough for xp (IDK why dell goes cheap on RAM but they always do) take a look at this website and tell me what you think http://memorystock.com/memory/DellPrecisionWorkstationM20.html P.S. It doesn't look like you have any viruses so this is your best bet IMHO.
yep looks like a ram issue alrite.will try to upgrade and see if it helps.only thing is thats an american site and im in ireland.mite give dell ireland a ring and see what the story is whit them.thanks for your time cos i see you have you own issues to get sorted.
just to let you know took ur advice and upgraded my ram to 2gbs and shes running like a dream.did it myself to.didnt think it was that simple to do.and fairly cheap only 55 euros.thanks for all your help
told you it would be the simplest, cheapest, and best upgrade you could do. I do that to my computers first when I get one (rarely). 2gb is quite an upgrade from 256 mb and should give you no problems whatsoever anymore as far as performance.
